Our Founder's Story: Why Steph Created Redbloom Chili Crisp
I started cooking at the age of 6. My dad passed out after work one night, so I had to make dinner for myself. This experience sparked a sense of self-reliance that gradually blossomed into a deep creative curiosity. As an immigrant, this curiosity was not just about creating a dish, but also about understanding and connecting with different cultures through the universal language of food. I ventured into culinary starting from the ground up by washing dishes. By the time I was in high school, I had climbed to Executive Chef at iBao Chicago, one of the pioneer Asian Fusion restaurants. But the 'typical' life beckoned and I found myself at university, studying engineering. In university, my fascination with artificial intelligence took root and led me to explore the intersection between AI and culinary innovation. Most recently, I served as the Director of Product at Cheetah, where I used AI to help chefs redefine their menus, making them healthier and more sustainable. My personal life, however, presented a new challenge as I developed Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Faced with the prospect of giving up spicy food forever, I found myself questioning why there weren't any viable solutions for people with IBS - a surprisingly common condition. That's when I dove headfirst into the world of molecular gastronomy. I collaborated with my mother, a respected scientist and physician, to leverage AI and develop unique recipe models based on molecular data. Using microencapsulation techniques, we conducted countless experiments and after 40 iterations, we successfully created the world's first SHITLESS hot sauce. This achievement cemented my belief that AI can indeed be harnessed to improve our health through food.
